I just signed up with Hostfoilo to use CF8 along with dreamweaver. I have just found out that they disable the RDS login so that does not allow me to set up any databases under the databases tab application window. Thus many of the features in dreamweaver are disabled. Does anyone have a work around? Or are there other hosts that allow an RDS login?

my host does the same thing, but they have a controlpanel (cpanel) that i can go and setup 'odbc connections' - then i just check a box that says 'add as coldfusion dsn' in side their screen. maybe your host provider has something like that too? i wouldn't panic - i'm sure they have something in place.

Yes, you can certainly setup a coldfusion DNS with the host. The question is how do you get access to the features within dreamweaver when the host does not allow RDS access?

Hi - A lot of hosts will disable RDS for security reasons - I just don't edit code live - I have a local development server setup and that is what I connect dreamweaver to (if I want to use it that way - a lot of times I don't like the code it writes and I just use a text editor to do it the way I want) Once everything is tested and ready I put it online. If you MUST have RDS I guess you will have to shop around for a host that will provide it sorry not to have a real solution for you, Megan

Maybe that is where I am confused. When I set up my "Testing Server" on dreamweaver, should that be local through IIS?

Good Morning - "Should" is kind of a relative term sometimes depending on what the programmer is wanting to achieve :D - my testing server is set up to be my local setup (local web server , local databases etc) but I have done work for someone who ran his own live server and wanted me to edit code live through Dreamweaver & RDS (have to admit it made me nervous - don' like to edit live) hth ~megan

OMGosh, Louis - I am probably one of the most anxiety ridden people on the face of the earth (sometimes to the point of paralysis) I have to be very conscious every day about not giving in to it and allowing myself to be bullied by all my fears, but instead live the way I want to live and do what I really want to do. Some days I do great and other days my to-do list is: 1. get up 2. survive :D - type at you later, Megan

actually, during a coldfusion install it recommends not enabling RDS for production environments. so if you find a host that provides it you may want to stay away from them (it's a security risk for sure!). @megan - i'm convinced all delvelopers are anxious/nervous people... most i've found are on some sort of medicine lol. you're not alone
